How It Works

🌍 The Science Behind Our Calculator

A carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas emissions caused by your daily activities. Our calculator estimates your footprint based on three main factors: Travel, Electricity.
It converts your inputs into CO₂ equivalent values, showing how much impact you have on the planet. By understanding your footprint, you can take simple steps—like using energy-efficient appliances, reducing car travel, or switching to renewables—to lower emissions and contribute to a greener future.

Car Travel

đźš— Step 1: Travel Emissions

When you travel by car, bus, or flight, fuel burning releases COâ‚‚. We estimate emissions as:

COâ‚‚ from Car = Distance (km/day) Ă— 0.12 kg Ă— 365 days

(0.12 kg COâ‚‚ per km for an average petrol car)
Electricity

đź’ˇ Step 2: Electricity Usage

Electricity generation often comes from coal, gas, or oil. We calculate:

COâ‚‚ from Electricity = Monthly kWh Ă— 0.92 kg Ă— 12

(0.92 kg COâ‚‚ per kWh is a global average)
Total

📊 Step 4: Total Annual Footprint

Finally, we add all emissions together:

Total COâ‚‚ = Travel + Electricity + Food

This gives you an estimated annual carbon footprint in kg of COâ‚‚ per year.
